Anglesey Abbey near Cambridge is a splendid place to visit at any time of year. It is looked after now by the National Trust who do an excellent job of preserving both the house and the gardens. The article quoted below is based mainly on photographs of the Winter Walk in the garden. This is possibly the best I’ve ever seen with its variety of form and colour quite independent of spring and summer flowering plants. There’s an interesting article about the Abbey’s history on Wikipedia, and of course the National Trust site has details of opening times etc, etc..
